As two people who fell in love and decided to live together, we always thought that marriage would be a good way to build our lives together. In addition to having hundreds of civil rights and legal protections afforded to us as a married couple, there is also the agknowledgement by friends, family, and the community that we belong together.
Yet for many Americans, marriage is not an option legally afforded to them, simply on the basis of who they love is a member of the same gender. Like most Americans, we know friends and family who have committed loving relationships with same-sex partners, just like we know many married couples of opposite genders. So we’re advocating for equal marriage rights for same-sex couples because we want to support any of our friends and family members who want to be married, just as we have chose for ourselves! It’s hard to believe it has been a month since we became engaged! In the time since then we’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our family and friends, and for that we wanted to say: Thank YOU!
To help share the story of our engagement, we’ve written the story from both of our perspectives; while it’s a moment both of us will remember forever, we thought it be a good idea to write a few more details in the “long version”. And since sharing the proposal itself and the ring might be more difficult for those we don’t get to see every day (like our families), we’ve added pages about both to the site.

If you’re on this website, there’s a good chance you already know the good news: Matthew Hurst and Lauren Reid are engaged to be married. Matt proposed to Lauren at Grand Central Terminal in New York City last week, and she said “Yes!”
Both of us couldn’t be more excited to start planning our big day and getting prepared for married life. We don’t have much to share in the way of wedding dates or plans just yet, as we’re only beginning to return phone calls, text messages, and well-wishes in social media from friends and family. But one of our first decisions together (besides the big one, that is) was to set up this website, where we’ll share wedding plans and ideas along each step of our mad scramble toward marital bliss.
Until then, we’d like to thank our friends and family for their outpouring of love and support about our big news and to say that we’re excited too!
